Let a Classic Remain a Classic

Jermanie Dupri told MTV.com that he decided to rework the Qunicy Jones classic "Secret Garden". Let me just give you the run down, "The Secret Garden" (Sweet Seduction Suite) was recorded in 1989 by the incomparable COMPOSER Qunicy Jones. The track featured heavyweight Barry White, the King of Faslettos, El DeBarge, Newcomer Al B. Sure and James Ingram. Dupri plans to replace the ensemble with singers Usher, Trey Songz, Tyrese and Robin Thicke. There is no denying that each of these men are respected singers in their own right but do we really want to watch them butcher a classic. Jermaine Dupri may be responsible for the successes of Bow-Wow and Jagged Edge but does he have what it takes to remaster a classic?

Here's a peep at the original "Secret Garden" if you have forgotten it (or if you are not old enough to remember)

Honor the Past Rather than Attempt to Emulate It

Sentiments on the "We Are The World" (Haiti Remake)

"I know everybody is gonna take this wrong: ‘We Are the World,’ I love it, and I understand the point and think it’s great. But I think ‘We Are the World’ is like [Michael Jackson's] ‘Thriller’ to me. I don’t ever wanna see it touched. I’m a fan of music. I know the plight and everything that’s going on in Haiti. I applaud the efforts: [Millions have been raised] through text [donations] to Haiti. So I appreciate the efforts and everything, but ‘We are the World’ is [musically] untouchable like ‘Thriller’ is untouchable. Some things are just untouchable. It was a valiant effort, but for me, it’s gonna be untouchable."

Mr. Carter hit the nail on the head. First of all, in this day in age we don't have enough legitimate singers to pull this off and secondly, the rappers should have rally their own troops to support Haiti. Although, I actually enjoyed controverisal Kanye's line. He is the voice of the disfranchised people. By the way, Vince Vaughn, Mr. Bentley and Jeff Bridges, really? Needless to say, they should have kept the past in the past!

I know Michael Jackson is cursing Quincy Jones and Lionel Ritchie out!

The Death of the ACER

Clearly, I've taken a hiatus but I plan on posting more soon. My ACER is on its finally leg and it's time to say goodbye. I can finally start browsing sites without holding the power cord into the computer. Yes, I live the impoverished lifestyle, don't judge me, but it's 2010 and I need to get my ish together. Stay 'til the next episode...

KICK ROCKS ACER!
